Mulch & Dirt Estimations

Before ordering a black dirt or mulch delivery in Rogers, be sure to calculate the amount of material needed for your project. Here are some formulas to estimate the volume of mulch material you will need:

It is standard industry practice to install mulch at a minimum depth of 4” to 6” on newly established landscapes. When refreshing mulch, be sure to break up the existing layer with a pitch fork to help the decomposition process before applying a new layer. This new layer should be 1” to 3” thick.

Rock Estimations

1 cubic foot of rock = approx. 100 lbs.

1 cubic foot of rock covers 3 – 4 sq.ft. at 3″ thick.

1 cubic yard of rock = 2,750 to 3,250 lbs. (depending on density – this will vary on the size and shape of each rock)

1 cubic yard of dirt = 2,000 to 2,500 lbs.

1 ton = 2000 lbs.
